All the Trees of the Field will Clap their Hands

I love this Sufjan Stevens song, as well as the bible verse.

And I heard from the trees a great parade.
And I heard from the hills a band was made.

And so I name this hat;

I love the feel of cotton in summer, between my fingers on a set of bamboos.

Jen is quite the model.

The weather couldn’t be more beautiful.

The pattern is my own, though it still needs a few kinks worked out I think. I will definately knit a few more for presents. I will be away on vacation until Monday, where I hope to enjoy some relaxing knitting.

Owl Cable Slouch

Thanks to all the fabulous crafters out there for your inspiration and support! I owe to owl cable pattern and slouch idea to craftster. Enjoy, and let me know if anything is wonky.

The Owl Cable Slouch

Materials

• - Less than one skein Red Heart Super Saver in brown. (I only used this because I had it and am poor; this hat would be even better in any worsted weight wool or alpaca, just check gauge; 17 stitches and 23 rows = 4″ .)
• -Size 7 and size 8 (US) circular needles, 16″.
• -Size 8 (US) dpns
• Cable needle and tapestry needle

Notes

• C4B – means slip 2 sts onto cable needle. Hold to back of work, k the next 2 sts, then k the 2 sts from the cable needle.
• C4F – means slip 2 sts onto cable needle. Hold to front of work, k the next 2 sts, then k the 2 sts from the cable needle.
• C6 – means slip 3 sts onto cable needle. Hold in front of work, k the next 3 sts, and then k the 3 sts from the cable needle.

Pattern

1. On size 7 circulars, CO 80 sts. Join into the round and work 5 rows in K1P1 rib.
2. Next round; *K1, K into the front and back of one st – 120 sts.
3. Knit four rounds, then change to size 8 circulars. (Knit more rounds here if you want your hat to be slouchier; mine covers the top half of my ears.)
4. Next round; *K8, P3, K6, P3 around. Repeat this 4 more times.
5. Next round; *C4B, C4F, P3, K6, P3
6. Next round; *K8, P3, K6, P3.
7. Repeat #6.
8. Next round; *K8, P3, C6, P3
9. Repeat #6 4 times (for the next 4 rounds).
10. Next round; *C4B, C4F, P3, K6, P3
11. Repeat #6.
12. Next round; *K1, p2, k2, p2, k1, p3, k6, p3
13. Next round; *K1, p2, k2, p2, k1, p3, C6, p3
14. Repeat #6 twice (for the next 2 rounds).
15. Next round; *C4B, C4F, P3, K6, P3
16. Next 4 rounds; Knit the knits, purl the purls.

Decreasing (This next part is fussy but it turns out alright)

(EDIT! I am sorry, but thanks to Amanda for noting;

Just wanted to let you know that steps 1 and 2 in your decrease rounds leave off the second set of 3 purl stitches. I just repeated the stitches from the 1st purl set and it worked out, but you might want to note this.

Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, and secure with a tight knot. (I totally almost typed “secure with a tight knit”. Haha!) Please let me know if there are any problems. Enjoy! <3
